Activity 3.1- Human Population
Two Countries I Chose: Northern Africa and Northern America
Country 1: Northern Africa
Birth rate: 23
Death Rate: 6
Population Growth Rate: 1.7%
Life Expectancy for Males and Females: 73 for males and 75 for females
Fertility Rate: 2.9%
Gross National Income: $9,626
Country 2: Northern America
Birth rate: 11
Death Rate: 10
Population Growth Rate: .10%
Life Expectancy for Males and Females: 75 for males and 81 for females
Fertility Rate: 1.6%
Gross National Income: $64,417
Based on the data that is shown for both countries, it is clear that Northern America is the more developed country, while Northern Africa is the least developed country. The reason why this is the case is because the birth rate for Northern America is 11, while the birth rate for Northern Africa is 23. The larger the population is in a country, the lower the birth rate is. According to our reading in Canvas, "Currently, there are two disparate demographic worlds. On one end is an old, rich, and relatively stable world often referred to as “industrialized” or “developed” world, and includes many European nations, United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia among others. On the other end is a young, poor, and rapidly growing world often referred to as “less-industrialized”, “less-developed” or “developing” and is made up of most people in Asia, Africa, and Latin America" (Mutiti, Page.16). There are some countries that have higher birth rates for the reason of increasing production in their country. Meaning, that country may need more people in the future to work. This could be the case as to why Northern Africa has a higher growth rate, but it is not certain. The more people they have in their country, the more their production continues to increase, along with the increase of earning money. Although, the death rate is lower in Northern Africa than in Northern America (The death rate for Northern Africa is 6, while the death rate for Northern America is 10). This could be since Northern America has a higher population. The more people in a country, the higher the chance of increased deaths. These comparisons prove that Northern America is the more developed country.
Now comparing the two countries' demography data to the world data. The world birth rate is 18 and the death rate is 8. The population growth rate is 1%, which is less than both of the countries that I displayed. The life expectancy is 71 for males and 75 for females. Lastly, the Gross National Income is $17,535. The life expectancy average for males and females for the world population is very similar to the life expectancy for Northern Africa. The world population has a birth rate of 18, while Northern America has a birth rate of 11. However, Northern America has a higher death rate than Northern Africa and the world human population.
